The Journey
Building digital products has always been my passion, but this time I wanted to create something different: something that brings people together through strategic gameplay and social interaction.
The idea came from countless nights playing Mafia with friends. You know the scene—someone fumbling with physical cards, trying to keep track of roles, arguments about who saw what. The game itself was brilliant, but the logistics were clunky.
I kept thinking: what if we could capture that same energy and strategic depth online, but make it actually seamless? What if the cards were digital, beautifully designed, and the game just worked?
MafiaDeck is the result of that vision.
What is MafiaDeck?
MafiaDeck is a digital platform for playing the classic social deduction game Mafia, completely eliminating the need for physical cards while adding modern polish and features.
If you've played Mafia, Werewolf, or Among Us, you know the core loop: hidden roles, social deduction, psychological warfare. MafiaDeck brings that to the web with a focus on immersion and smooth gameplay.
Every decision matters. Every conversation is strategic. Trust is both your greatest weapon and your biggest vulnerability.
The Launch: What's Actually Live
After months of development, playtesting, and iteration, here's what MafiaDeck offers today:
Seamless Game Setup
- Host or join instantly with a simple 6-letter code or QR code
- No accounts required to play (though accounts unlock features)
- Secret role assignment: Mafia, Detective, Doctor, or Civilian—each with unique abilities
- Perfect for parties, game nights, or remote hangouts
- Just scan and play—no friction, no downloads
Immersive Visual Experience
This was critical. The game needed to feel premium, not like a throwaway web app.
- Carefully crafted card designs with smooth flip animations
- Atmospheric themes that enhance the psychological tension
- Elegant hover effects and seamless transitions
- Dark, cinematic UI that makes you feel like you're actually at the table
Real-Time Multiplayer
- Rebuilt server synchronization with instantaneous updates
- No lag, no confusion about game state
- Everyone sees the same thing at the same time
Game Coordination
- Discuss during the day phase
- Vote players out
- Special roles act at night
- All coordinated through the platform
Cross-Platform
- Works seamlessly on desktop and mobile
- Responsive design means you can play anywhere
- Same experience regardless of device
What Makes It Different
There are other Mafia implementations out there. Here's what makes MafiaDeck stand out:
Visual Polish: This isn't a utilitarian card app. Every interaction feels intentional and premium.
Performance: The complete server architecture rebuild means updates happen instantly. No waiting, no confusion.
Accessibility: Six-letter codes or QR codes. That's it. Your friends can join in seconds.
Modern Stack: Built with Firebase, real-time sync, and modern web technologies. It's fast and reliable.
The Technical Journey
Behind the scenes, this involved:
- Completely rebuilding the server synchronization architecture
- Designing and implementing smooth card animations and state transitions
- Building a real-time multiplayer system that actually works reliably
- Creating an intuitive UI that works on screens from phones to ultrawide monitors
- Implementing QR code and 6-letter code join systems for frictionless onboarding
The changelog shows constant iteration and improvement. This wasn't a "ship and forget" project—it's actively evolving based on real gameplay.
What's Next
The platform is live and playable, but I'm not stopping here. Based on community feedback and my own vision, here's what's coming:
- Integrated voice chat for seamless in-game communication
- Custom themes and player-created content to personalize your games
- Additional character roles and abilities
- Ranked competitive modes
- Custom game creation tools
- Detailed player statistics and progression systems

Grab some friends, create a game, and see what happens. The best part about building this has been watching people actually use it and seeing the strategies emerge.
This project represents a new direction for me—moving from utility apps to creating experiences that bring people together. The response has been incredible, and I can't wait to see how the community grows.
See you at the table.
